The Frankie
Where Art and Everyday Life Intersect
-
The Frankie is a new multi-family property in SE Portland’s Brooklyn neighborhood that blends affordable and market-rate housing with graphic design, environmental branding, and curated artwork through a collaboration with ArtLifting, a social enterprise representing artists with disabilities. Design acts as a connective framework, integrating identity, signage, wayfinding, and environmental graphics to bring art into the everyday experience of the building.
Positioned at the intersection of Franklin and Milwaukie, the name “The Frankie” plays off its location while giving the property a playful, approachable personality that carries through the visual system. I developed a cohesive set of branding and design touchpoints, from large-scale wallcoverings and environmental installations to signage and artist plaques that share the stories behind each work, creating a unified system where art, identity, and place reinforce one another.
